Apollo Projects has completed a new 7,750m² cold storage and distribution facility for Fife Capital in Māngere, South Auckland, providing a purpose-built home for tenant Refrigafreighters.
Completed in September 2026, the development adds to Apollo's growing portfolio of specialist cold storage and logistics projects, demonstrating its expertise in delivering technically complex commercial construction projects across New Zealand.
The facility incorporates 5,550m² of freezer and cool store space, with capacity for approximately 8,000 pallets. Nine adjustable loading docks along the ELA corridor enable efficient product movement between refrigerated trucks and storage areas, supported by dedicated logistics, office and plant facilities.
Specialist design and build expertise
As an experienced commercial design build company, Apollo worked closely with Fife Capital and the wider consultant team to integrate refrigeration, structural, civil, fire, electrical and building services into a coordinated design.
The site presented several technical challenges, including significant level changes, an existing 1.8m stormwater pipe and three upstream overland flow catchments converging at the property.
Close collaboration between Apollo's pre-construction and construction teams helped resolve complex drainage, buildability and consenting requirements, maintaining progress as design development continued into the early stages of construction.
Sustainability and cultural connection
The development has achieved a 5 Green Star design rating and is targeting the equivalent as-built rating, incorporating water efficiency and reuse initiatives, EV and cycle parking, and construction waste management. An impressive 89% of construction waste was diverted from landfill, significantly exceeding the project's 70% target.
Te Aranga design principles also informed the project, supporting meaningful engagement with local iwi and the integration of cultural elements into the development.
The building was named Pātaka Pāmahana, reflecting the area's historical significance as a place of food gathering and distribution. A specially commissioned pou at the entrance further strengthens this connection between the site's history and its modern-day purpose.
The project's Code Compliance Certificate was submitted approximately five weeks ahead of programme, reflecting the collaborative approach taken throughout delivery.
For Apollo, the development reinforces its position among specialist commercial builders in Auckland, combining design and build expertise with practical solutions for complex industrial and logistics facilities.
