Apollo Takes Home Gold at Commercial Project Awards
Apollo Projects were thrilled to receive three Gold Awards at this year’s Commercial Project Awards for recent projects for Ngāti Mutunga O Wharekauri, Hawke's Bay Community Fitness Centre Trust and Stratford District Council.
Our teams were awarded Gold for the Chatham Islands Office and Museum in the Civic Category, Gold for the new Hawkes Bay Regional Aquatic Centre in the Tourism & Leisure Category and Gold for Wai O Rua - Stratford Aquatic Centre in the Tourism & Leisure Category.
The Chatham Islands Office and Museum was awarded Gold in the Civic category. Apollo is proud to have delivered the design and build of this exciting community focused facility for Ngāti Mutanga O Wharekauri.
The Iwi Trust presented Apollo with a clear vision – it needed a safe, efficient, functional and durable facility that would house local artefacts, Museum staff and Council offices, as well as contractors and visitors. Importantly, it wanted to ensure the Chatham Islands’ collection of cultural heritage taonga was managed, conserved and enhanced for future generations to enjoy.
Feedback from Ngāti Mutunga O Wharekauri, the community and visitors has been overwhelmingly positive since the doors opened, and we couldn’t have been prouder to deliver this outstanding community asset to the people of the Chatham Islands.
Alongside gold for our Chatham Islands work, we were proud to receive Gold in the Tourism & Leisure category for the Hawke’s Bay Regional Aquatic Centre. A project that was delivered both on time and on budget in August 2022, despite ongoing COVID-19 disruptions, delays and major weather events.
The aquatic facility which has the capacity to host international events, as well as local club meets, includes a 50m FINA World Championship/Olympic-sized pool that can be divided into two 25 metre competition pools. Two camera platforms were installed to accommodate international media teams.
Working on this project aligned perfectly with Apollo Project’s commitment to learn to swim initiatives and our dedication to developing world-class community facilities.
And finally, we were delighted to receive another Gold in the Tourism & Leisure category for our work on Wai O Rua – Stratford Aquatic Centre. A project that came to life in October 2022, nearly a century after the community’s last pool was completed. It features an eight-lane, 25 metre competition pool; a 25-metre programme pool; a learn to swim area; a zero-depth splash pad with interactive toys; a dedicated toddler pool as well as cultural artwork incorporated into the design.
A special thank you to all of our amazing clients for the opportunity to work with them on these fantastic projects, and to our partners. Congratulations everyone!
