Project Manuka Chosen as Beacon Project
Our recent project with Fonterra, Project Manuka, has been chosen as a Beacon Project by the Construction Sector Accord.
Project Manuka is a significant plant upgrade and building maintenance project where we wanted to do things differently. With the goal of fostering collaboration and wellbeing for the up to 300 people engaged onsite, the Community of People programme was launched.
The programme introduced initiatives like joint meetings each day to review activities, risks, and opportunities for collaboration. Project Manuka also houses specialist health services onsite, hosts common lunches for all trades, and invests in high-quality relationships between all parties. Cultural values are reinforced around site and rewards and recognitions are used to reinforce exemplary behaviour.
As the project teams had to learn to work together safely through Covid Alert Levels, the importance of looking out for one another took on new importance.
“The Community of People programme made it possible for the team to work through the incredible stressors of a pandemic,” says Apollo Projects Director and Chief Executive, Craig Waghorn.
By putting the focus on worker wellbeing, Project Manuka saw undeniable benefits. Fonterra experienced a 93% decrease in injuries and incidents.
