Putting safe, delicious food on the table takes care and consideration – two qualities we brought to our work with Santa Rosa Foods in 2007.
The poultry processing company was relocating to Christchurch’s Waterloo Business Park and needed an experienced design and construction partner to build its new factory. Apollo Projects came on board to deliver a tailored 2,600m² facility that would lead the way in food processing technology.
Santa Rosa Foods has been producing a range of poultry products since 1990. They were after a factory that could receive and store raw products, cook and process them, and load them back on to trucks, ready to deliver to their supermarket and restaurant customers.
We designed a modern, state-of-the-art food processing factory, built to high food safety and hygiene specifications. It features two production areas, one for raw and the other for cooked products, protecting the goods from cross-contamination. The products are stored in two freezers and nine chillers. The cooked production area also boasts four cookers.
Each area is insulated with Kingspan panel, ensuring the temperature is carefully managed for maximum food safety and energy efficiency. The air throughout the facility also has to be filtered to a high standard, and this was achieved by removing all cavities and gaps from places harmful bacteria could grow. This included sealing all panels and flashings. The factory’s services were then installed in the ceiling, safely away from the production areas.
The factory also has trade waste considerations. In response, we designed a system that treats waste from the production area before it goes into the public waste system.
A new office space, factory shop, truck loading areas and parking spaces for staff and visitors were the final components of this major food processing project.
Apollo Projects’ attention to detail and specialist expertise meant that Santa Rosa Foods received not only a high-performing factory, but a world-class facility, complete with industry-leading food processing technology.
