Project Details
After more than a century of netball at Christchurch’s Hagley Park Courts, the sport has a new home at the Christchurch Netball Centre, part of the 10,050m² multisport facility at Ngā Puna Wai.
Designed and delivered by Apollo Projects under a design and build contract, the $15 million centre supports a wide range of sports including netball, volleyball, futsal, korfball, and gymnastics.
Originally scoped for eight courts, Apollo’s collaborative design process enabled the delivery of 10 courts, within the same budget, exceeding client expectations and setting a new benchmark for value-driven delivery.
The project, which has a strong focus on community wellbeing, inclusivity, and long-term value, was completed in just over a year with no delays, allowing the community to benefit from the facility sooner. Christchurch Netball Centre is now a vibrant hub for Canterbury’s sporting community, uniting people from across the region and supporting participation across all ages and abilities.
The site’s cultural and historical significance was also a key consideration. Ngā Puna Wai—meaning “many springs water”—is a place of deep importance to Ngāi Tahu and was historically a gathering place for Māori. The new centre honours this legacy by continuing to bring people together through sport and connection.
Apollo’s Preconstruction Team played a pivotal role in shaping the design to meet stakeholder needs, while the delivery team navigated challenges including neighbour engagement and consenting requirements. The result is a high-quality, future-focused facility that reflects Apollo’s commitment to excellence, collaboration, and community impact.
