Project Details

The Gallagher Recreation Centre opened in February 2023. The community's health and wellness needs have since been fulfilled at the multi-purpose centre, which features two full-sized stadium courts, and a self-contained gym and health club offering personal training and group classes. The facility also includes changing rooms, a meeting room for 30 people, a storeroom and a kitchen in the 2,580m2 facility.

Te Whare Takarangi O Te Kūiti is the name gifted to the stadium by Ngāti Rora and mana whenua who worked collaboratively with the Waitomo District Council and Te Kūiti High School. The journey took a few years and a lot of fundraising. Apollo Projects was involved from the concept stage onwards, bringing to life the aspirations of a community group who dreamed of a recreation centre in their King Country town.

Apollo's experience designing and building community sports centres enabled our team to realise this dream for local residents and deliver the new centre on time and on budget for the council.

"We were able to provide confidence that we could deliver what we said we could for the price and within the programme timeframe," says GM of Construction Aidan Knox. The facility was built with community in mind, and it now serves various sports and recreational groups in the area.
