New Zealand’s first and only independent product development spray dryer, located in Hamilton, was designed and built by Apollo. The $11 million spray dryer facility, primarily funded by Innovation Waikato Ltd, is the Waikato component of the Government-sponsored New Zealand Food Innovation Network. Capacity of the multi-purpose spray dryer is one-half tonne/hour.
Apollo’s role on the project comprised the complete design and construction of all building works including the evaporator hall, packaging store, load out, milk receival, control room and amenities, together with all civil, infrastructure and HVAC works associated with the facility. It was built to achieve the extremely high hygiene and environmental controls required for the production of milk powder.
Apollo also worked closely with global food tech company Tetra Pak, suppliers of the dryer componentry to ensure the coordination of plant and equipment with the building and services.
