Apollo Projects was appointed by Christchurch City Council (CCC), to facilitate the design and build of the new Scarborough Splash Pad to replace the earthquake-damaged paddling pool. Completed in December 2014 the facility includes a zero-depth splash pad with a variety of water toys including geysers, a water canon, a twist top and rainbow spray hoops which then extends into a paddling pool.
The project included a new plant room, pool deck surrounds, seating and shade gazebos, a solar charging table and a shade sail for sun protection. Its stunning location is at one of Christchurch’s premier beach locations, looking out to Scarborough beach adjacent to the beach café which makes it a very popular and busy summer attraction.
The paddling pool is a stainless steel walled pool with a special PVC membrane which includes a cushioned floor to provide a slip-resistant surface and fall protection for the little ones.
The filtration system is world leading which does not require a balance tank and uses significantly less water during backwashing whilst providing exceptional water quality.
The end result has been a fantastic facility which is proving to be very popular and has been enthusiastically embraced by the community.
