Project Details

Apollo Projects has successfully delivered Stage 4 of the Sorted Logistics development at Christchurch’s Waterloo Business Park, completing a total of 24,093m² of building area, including 10,111m² of covered canopies and 29,339m² of concrete yard slabs, situated on a 55,505m² site. This award-winning project received a Gold Award at the 2021 Commercial Project Awards.

The development was delivered in four distinct stages:

Stage 1: A large warehouse featuring open floor space with racking installed across one-third of the area.

Stage 2: A two-storey office located at the northeastern corner of the warehouse, incorporating a commercial kitchen, cafeteria, toilets, locker rooms, training room, kitchenette, server room, and a library.

Stage 3: Installation of yard slabs surrounding the building, carefully programmed to allow early access for Sorted to begin relocating stock from a facility with an expiring lease.

Stage 4: An expansion of capacity, delivered under a new joint venture between Sorted Logistics and Apollo Projects, which included land acquisition and construction.

As with earlier stages, Stage 4 presented infrastructure challenges, including existing services along the old Waterloo Road—most notably the central South Island’s copper communications network. These were identified early and, due to their depth, did not pose significant issues, however overhead high-voltage wires added complexity to this phase.

The commercial kitchen was expanded in Stage 4 to support Sorted’s growing workforce, now exceeding 100 employees, by offering wholesome meals onsite. The library was developed in response to Sorted’s request for a quiet break-out space, featuring full-height bookshelves and leather couches for comfort.

The entire project was handed over on schedule, enabling Sorted Logistics to stock shelves and activate operations without delay.
