Project Details

This project involved the full design and delivery of a 12,000m² distribution centre in Palmerston North, supplying frozen and chilled products to Foodstuffs supermarkets from Wellington to Waiouru.

The facility features large post-tensioned floor slabs in freezer and chiller areas, eliminating construction joints to reduce wear in high-traffic zones. Fourteen high-speed sealed truck docks support efficient product transfer in the environmental loading and staging area.

To enhance safety, the refrigeration system uses an ammonia-to-glycol heat transfer, removing the risk of ammonia leaks in product zones. A double-knock fire protection system—featuring two interconnected sensors—minimises the chance of accidental sprinkler activation and product loss. The new 500m² administration area includes high-spec offices, training rooms, and staff amenities.
